Responsibility for our nature
Sustainability at the Hotel Hubertus
What does sustainability mean at Hotel Hubertus?
We are convinced that economic success is not achievable without sustainable thinking. We impress our guests with our environmentally-friendly, sustainable and guest-friendly offer and are able to substantiate this with recognised certification and awards.
We are particularly proud of the award of the Austrian and European Eco-label we got in August 2021 for our sustainability commitment.
The breath-taking natural surroundings and our wonderful environment are very important to us.
As a family business we prefer to act in a responsible, sustainable manner and to play an active role in protecting our environment.
Wherever possible, we work closely with partners from the surrounding area - from local electricians and joiners, to farmers, who, as sustainable and responsible producers, supply us with delicious natural foods.
For re-building and renovation work, more often than not we employ craftsmen from the region.
Every day we use resources sparingly in our overall production, commercial and service provision processes, by using innovative methods, products, materials and technologies.
Regional suppliers and businesses in the Hubertus
Our local suppliers include Bäckerei Schroll, Metzgerei Rumpold and Metzgerei Schöppl, Stiegl – the Salzburg Beer, Wawi – fine distillates, flowers from Geli, decorative work by Karin Czerny, staff work wear from Gwandstubn and many more …
Our wine list for the most part features Austrian wines. For decades our house wine has come from 'Mauss', a family business and member of regional trademark, K&K – Kamptal Klassik. Their vineyards are managed in strict accordance with guidelines following controlled, integrated production, with mineral fertilisation is broadly renounced. Targeted yield reduction and careful pruning ensure top-quality grapes are picked at the right time.
Mona Lisa SPA
In the Mona Lisa Spa we use STYX natural cosmetics - high quality skin care products from Austria.
Climate-neutral production and zero animal testing are a matter of course, as is the use of tried and true recipes, coupled with contemporary expertise.
Mona Lisa Hair studio
The weDo Professional hair care series is used in the studio. Fewer, carefully selected ingredients yield professional treatment for normal to damaged hair. The company is the embodiment of sustainability in all areas – from 100% recyclable packaging to ingredients that are up to 94% natural origin. Products are dermatological, and are not tested on animals.
Bio swimming pond
The main highlight in our garden is our Bio swimming pond, spanning over 100m2.
Enjoy superb swimming fun in natural water, with no added chemicals. In summer it is heated by way of a thermal heat pump – fed from our photovoltaic system.
Drinking water is our most important comestible. Our precious drinking water comes from Blausee. The extremely soft water in our area is particularly worthy of note. Our pipelines are cutting-edge and regular in-house inspections by an accredited testing and inspection body ensure our water can also be enjoyed straight from the tap without hesitation.
All hotel rooms, suites, corridors and other public areas have LED and energy-saving lamps. Our electricity comes from 100% renewable energy.
We produce our own electricity from our 20 kWp photovoltaic facility, constructed on the roof in 2016, helping save precious resources. Under normal weather conditions, during the day we generate enough electricity to fully power our business.
Heating - green technology
Our district heating comes from Neukirchen heating plant, where heat is generated following natural cycles. When wood is burned, it only releases the amount of CO2 that a tree absorbs from the atmosphere when it grows. Heating with wood is therefore CO2 neutral and has an important contribution to play in protecting the environment. A clean affair: state-of-the-art combustion technology and energy efficiency make wood heating an environmentally-friendly alternative to heating oil and gas.
We have opted for underfloor heating throughout the hotel, which means we save a considerable amount of energy in comparison to standard heating systems. To ensure underfloor heating inertia is kept as low as possible, the entire system is efficiently and specifically regulated by a computer-controlled programme targetting each room. An even heat distribution means less dust is stirred up than with standard heating. This is a great advantage for asthmatics and people who have a house dust allergy.
We save precious water by integrating aerators in washbasins, WC and shower mixers. For the most part we use single-lever mixer taps.
Our hot water processing is carried out using 4 x 1000 LTR fresh water modules.
This means storing drinking water is not necessary, since it is heated using the instantaneous water heater principle. The heat for this comes from hot water buffer storage that is recharged via heat recovery from our cooling systems.
Here too we ensure the best quality by way of regular internal checks via an accredited testing and inspection body.

Tobogganing & Winter Hikes
The breathtaking nature and our wonderful surroundings are very important to us. As a family business, we want to act responsibly and sustainably and actively contribute to the protection of our environment.
Almost half of our laundry (bed linen and terry cloth linen) is cleaned in the hotel in a resource-friendly way. The bulk is outsourced - Salesianer is Austria's only award-winning laundry business to have the eco-label for provision of hygienic, spotless laundry. An 'klimaaktive' exemplary company emphasising sustainability with regard to the environment and to society. Bathing towels and hand towels are only exchanged upon guests' express wishes (placed on the floor).
Disposal of left-over food
We expertly collect our left-over foodstuffs using an organic waste disposal unit and turn it into environmentally friendly energy using bio gas facilities. Oils and grease too are expertly collected and re-used to save resources.
All furnishings and items of furniture are produced by local businesses. A great deal is made from reclaimed wood which is natural and ready-oiled.
All our beds, mattresses and couches are made by JOKA – the only Austrian mattress manufacturer to bear the Austrian environmental seal of approval.
The manufacture of a product that is hygienic, beneficial and healthy to use, ought to be sound for people and the environment too. For that reason, products are only made using wood from local forests, whose sustainable management and conservation also safeguards the role of the environment. This wood is only treated with water-based stains and varnishes, which also safeguards hygiene and protects our environment. Attention is paid to environmental sustainability in terms of the cushioning materials, with only those processed using CFC-free foam used.
Our fabrics and curtains are from Ambiente & Design – a member of LE CLUB OF LINEN. This certification body ensures sustainable flax cultivation and European – and indeed global - production of the loveliest and highest quality linen fabrics. The finest materials are created here, with passion and the highest quality - linen from the Mühlviertel, wool from Salzkammergut and Salzburger Land, processed and refined to create a silky soft fabric in Waldviertel, embroidered in Vorarlberg – attributes that make these sustainable fabrics, made in Austria, so special.
Our Hubertus forest
The woodland around the Hotel Hubertus functions as a barrier and protective woodland for Neukirchen. Above all else however, it is a wonderful recreation area for locals and holiday-makers alike. We emphasise cooperation with local forestry authorities to manage and conserve this special gem right on the hotel doorstep.
The woodland produces the raw material wood in an environmentally-friendly and straightforward manner. It also protects our resources and provides a habitat for numerous animals and plants. What's more, the fungi and berries enhance so many of our delicious meals.
Our Hubertus garden
We score plus points in the garden around the hotel with lots of little things - a 'snack garden' with berries, fruit you can pick from the trees, like apples, plums and apricots and a herb garden, with herbs used to enhance our meals. On the slopes of the Sonnenhang we leave the flowers in the meadow to grow, keeping the hard-working bees happy.
Eco-friendly document printing
We communicate and only print premium documents on environmentally-certified, climate-neutral, recycling off-set paper.
Waste sorting in the Hubertus
We provide regular training in waste prevention and waste separation. With regard to suppliers, we ensure that bulk packs and reusable packs are used in place of single use packaging.
E-Mobility in the Hubertus
Our electric charging point is now operational for environmentally-conscious guests. We provide a universal charging station for electric vehicles that is available when you are staying the night in our hotel.
So, while you are enjoying a relaxing slumber in one of our cosy hotel rooms, your vehicle will be charged up and ready for you after you have savoured your gourmet breakfast, ready to take you to your next destination.
Following cards are accepted: Cards for payment.
At the Hotel Hubertus, it is our concern to make your stay as barrier-free as possible. For example, the reception is accessible without steps, the corridor to the rooms is 120 cm wide and the beds are sufficiently high.
